Korea Festival is coming back to Fed Square for a two-day celebration of Korean culture, traditions, and delicious food. This free, family-friendly event offers a chance to explore Korea’s vibrant heritage, enjoy live performances, and indulge in authentic Korean cuisine.
In 2025 Korea Festival is teaming up with Netflix to celebrate the highly anticipated third and final season of the global sensation, Squid Game! Over two full days, Melbournians are invited to enter the world of Squid Game with an exclusive interactive experience. Test your skills in a game of Red Light Green Light with an operational Young Hee doll, rub shoulders with some ominous Pink Guards and snap a VIP photo in the immersive setup. Whether you&#8217;re a die-hard fan of Korean culture or just curious, this event is your chance to dive into the thrilling and iconic world of Squid Game. Plus, with the final season premiering on Netflix on June 27, it’s a chance to celebrate the series that sparked a Korean cultural renaissance across Australia and beyond. Note: Entry to the games is limited to persons aged 15 years and over.
You can also watch dynamic cultural performances, including traditional shows by the Saengdonggam Crew. Try making kimbap, and explore the Korean food stalls and cultural booths.

This year’s National Reconciliation Week theme is Bridging Now to Next, inviting all Australians to consider how we forge a future together, guided by reconciliation, and connected to past and present.
It’s a great time to explore some of the First Peoples art within our cultural institutions, and go on a First Peoples walking tour, to learn about the rich First Peoples history of Naarm (Melbourne), with an experienced First Peoples guide.
And to wrap up the week, all are welcome to come and enjoy the annual Mabo Day concert, celebrating land rights activist Eddie Mabo, whose legal challenge to the High Court in 1992 marked the beginning of Native Title in this country.

Guru Nanak's Legacy: Multi Faith Langgar

Join an evening that honours culture, community, and the extraordinary legacy of Eddie Koiki Mabo – a man whose courage and determination reshaped the history of this country. The program will feature live music, spoken word, short films, and a joyful ukulele sing-along, all creating a heartfelt and vibrant tribute.
Mabo Day is marked annually on 3 June. It commemorates Mer Island man Eddie Koiki Mabo and his successful efforts to overturn the legal fiction of terra nullius, or ‘land belonging to no-one’. The Mabo decision was a watershed moment in Australian history. In addition to overturning a long-held colonial myth, it paved the way for subsequent native title claims.

Part durational performance, multi-sensory composition and dynamic meditation, Diagrammatica is an ever-evolving improvisation—an open-ended search for meaning through sound, image, and presence.
Inspired by the arcane language of physics diagrams, astral photography, and graphic musical scores, this immersive work invites you to watch, listen, and play within a world of unfolding connections.
Encounter the live film and soundscape, free, in the Atrium, as it emerges from the depths. and, for those ready to step further into the unknown, book a place in an intimate group descending on the hour to the rift where perceptions warp, and the system breathes through you.
Created and hosted by Jason Maling, in collaboration with sound artists Madeleine Flynn &amp; Tim Humphrey and filmmaker Rhian Hinkley, Diagrammatica also features an extraordinary lineup of guest musicians playing live within the underground chamber throughout the season.

The Land of the Five Rivers comes alive at Fed Square for a massive celebration of Punjabi art, food and Pakistani music that’s free for all ages.
Horn please!
Winter at Fed Square is about to get overtaken by some proper Punjabi heat. Blockbuster is a massive day-to-night celebration bursting with Pakistani music, Punjabi truck art and mouthwatering street food. Taking its name from the 2024 Coke Studio viral hit ‘Blockbuster’, it’s a free all-ages event that’s set to splash the city with colour, flavour and energy.
We’re welcoming a whole host of superstar artists who’ve never performed in Australia for this world-premiere live experience, exclusive to Melbourne.
Headlining the night is the ‘uncensored voice of Pakistan’ (The Times of India), rapper Faris Shafi. The ‘Blockbuster’ hitmaker has racked up over 133 million streams globally. Annural Khalid, Spotify Pakistan’s most-streamed woman artist of 2024, will bring her infectious fusion of desi R&amp;B and pop. There’ll be a set from Qawwali duo Zain Zohaib, who will bring their soulful, contemporary take on a centuries-old Sufi tradition, continuing their family’s rich musical legacy with globally acclaimed performances. Joining the lineup is legendary musician and producer Xulfi (Zulfiqar Jabbar Khan), who pioneered and curated Nescafé Basement, the first ever Pakistani platform dedicated to unearthing underground talent, produced Coke Studio seasons 14 and 15, and was co-founder and former frontman of massive Pakistani bands, Entity and Call. Completing the line-up is Sherry Khattak, frontman of Karakoram, who is known for leading a bold new wave of Pakistani rock that honours the genre’s legacy while pushing its boundaries.
Fill your plate with street food. Explore the kaleidoscopic truck art by Pakistani painter Haider Ali who’s renowned for transforming everyday vehicles and public spaces into moving canvasses pride, joy and colonial resistance.
A big theme for the day is Baithak, which is traditionally a space for getting together, sharing stories and lending a hand. Learn the art of Paranda braiding, customise your own clothing or tote with Pakistani block printing, or strap on a dhol drum and try the basics of a bhangra beat.
Then, as the sun goes down, technicolour lights go up and the party kicks on, Blockbuster style.

A favourite event on the football calendar returns: the famous Zurich Walk to the ‘G.
Taking place this year on Monday 9 June, the annual walk coincides with FightMND’s Big Freeze Match, a game that sees the league and wider community rally around Melbourne great Neale Daniher in his fight against Motor Neurone Disease (MND).
Since 2015, the year of FightMND’s first Big Freeze Match, fans, members and supporters have been encouraged to throw their collective support around a cause that touches the lives of thousands of Australians, as well as a stalwart of the football community.
Daniher has been valiantly fighting MND with his charity FightMND, raising vital money and awareness for the disease he has named ‘the Beast’. Together, the organisation has raised over $115 million dollars in the 11 years since its inception, but there’s still more to be done.
Beginning the journey at Fed Square, supporters will walk towards the ‘G via Daniher’s Way, a walkway named after Daniher, acknowledging the significant impact he has had on both the AFL and wider Australian community.
The day will kick off from 10:30am at Fed Square, with a number of exciting activities, special guests and Q&amp;As with past and current Demons players.

Experience a new sound and video installation, a poem to the river in woiwurrung, by Wurundjeri artist and language specialist Brooke Wandin.
Language comes from Country. Language is the expression of Country. Through sharing and revitalising woiwurrung, Brooke Wandin and her family tell the story of the river, its place names across Country, and the way it flows. In wurrung dhumbunganjinu, we can hear woiwurrung speaking to the river, the birrarung, in her language, one she remembers and understands.
wurrung dhumbunganjinu is a family recording of woiwurrung sharing. This sound work rejuvenates our ancient oral tradition and strengthens our undeniable connection to Country. 
Recorded at Coranderrk, a place of attempted assimilation, this is our resistance.
Language is carried along birrarung from Coranderrk downstream to Fed Square. 
I am in awe of Birrarung. She is powerful, durable, yet fragile and sensitive, the veins that pump through Country, the source of creation. She has flowed since the beginning and always will.

The Test Garden is a window into <a href="https://artsprecinct.melbourne/laak-boorndap/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Laak Boorndap</a>, the new 18,000 square metre urban garden being delivered as part of the <a href="https://artsprecinct.melbourne/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Melbourne Arts Precinct Transformation Project</a>.
A densely planted, multi-layered, and continuously flowering space for people, art and performance, Laak Boorndap will be at the centre of the Melbourne Arts Precinct and will create more space for nature in our city. Along with our landscape architects and horticulturalists Hassell, Super Bloom, James Hitchmough and Nigel Dunnett, we have partnered with University of Melbourne to place experimentation and research at the heart of this project through rigorous scientific testing at the horticulture campus in Burnley.
Our new pop-up Test Garden demonstrates the naturalistic planting style of Laak Boorndap and provides a test bed for programming, research and conversations about climate change, biodiversity and ecology. Throughout the year, come and visit this garden to watch it grow and bloom with the seasons, take part in public programs and workshops, and find out more about our research insights into climate resilience and biodiversity preservation.

Celebrating the work of the Australian-born Paris-based fashion designer, this major new exhibition is the largest of Martin Grant’s career. Drawn from the NGV collection, including many works donated by the designer from his own personal archive as well as loans from his family and friends, Martin Grant encompasses more than four decades of the designer’s career. Beginning in the mid-1980s in Melbourne, the exhibition continues through the early 1990s when Grant re-established his eponymous label in Paris, and extends to his most recent collections.
Throughout his illustrious career, Martin Grant’s clients have included his muses Cate Blanchett and Lee Radziwill, as well as Naomi Campbell, Juliette Binoche, Rebel Wilson, and Lady Gaga. Conceived in close collaboration with the designer, the exhibition reflects Grant’s design sensibility and aesthetic through fashion, photography, sketches, press clippings and runway footage.

Martin Grant at The Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia

Welcome to Wurrdha Marra – meaning ‘Many Mobs’ in the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung language. The name comes to the NGV from the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Cultural Heritage Aboriginal Corporation and supports the purpose of this space in sharing the work of First Nations artists, from emerging to senior figures, and across time and place. For First Nations peoples around the world, art and design are part of a continuum where the past intersects with the present, different materials converge, and diverse perspectives come together. The central role of art in passing down important cultural knowledge is celebrated in this display through the diverse approaches that artists take to maintaining and regenerating customary cultural practices and iconography while also creating new forms of expression.
The works included in this inaugural hang are by emerging artists as well as senior figures across both time and place. Each of these artists has in their own way been at the forefront in creating new forms of expression, and in maintaining and regenerating customary cultural practices and iconography. Great individual artists, working in Aboriginal-owned art centres or independently after studying at art school, continue to shape and transform art in Australia, inspiring many others to follow their example.

From cattle dogs to lap dogs, divine felines to the black cats of superstition, Cats &amp; Dogs explores humanity’s deep connection to these animals through more than 250 works of art and design.
Drawn from the NGV Collection and spanning all periods and media, this exhibition of cats and dogs in art and design reveals how our domesticated companions have long been a rich source of visual imagery – from ancient history to the present day.
The exhibition features works by contemporary and historical artists including Rembrandt van Rijn, Francisco de Goya, Albrecht Dürer, Pierre Bonnard, Eileen Mayo, David Hockney, Jeff Koons, Hulda Guzmán and more alongside celebrated Australian artists, including Claudia Moodoonuthi, Trevor Turbo Brown, Atong Atem, Charles Blackman, Grace Cossington Smith and Nora Heysen.
Presented thematically, with dogs on one side and cats on the other, the exhibition unpacks particular behaviours, cultural symbolism and art-historical motifs. These include: working dogs and cats; mythology; religion and spirituality; and cats and dogs in popular culture.
Traversing painting, prints, drawings, textiles, photography, sculpture, decorative arts and fashion, Cats &amp; Dogs reveals the global appeal of these animals across borders and cultures, with works from Australia, Europe, Asia and North America.

Cats & Dogs at The Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia

Coming Home is a compelling solo exhibition by Dr. Jenny Murray-Jones of up to 25 of her paintings from KHTs unique and importance Collections of Victorian First Peoples Art and Cultural belongings and recent works by Dr. Murray-Jones.
Murray-Jones is a Yorta Yorta and Baraparapa artist. Her work offers a poignant exploration of family reconnection, delving into themes of Country, Kinship, and the enduring impact of colonisation and institutional life.
Through her rich and emotive use of colour and texture, Murray-Jones captures both the beauty and complexity of her family’s journey.
Her works tell stories of resilience, loss, and the healing power of reconnecting with family and Country. Each piece invites viewers into the artist’s personal history, where moments of joy and pain are intertwined, reflecting the strength of her cultural identity and the deep connections that bind her to her Ancestors and Country.
This exhibition, which coincides with National Reconciliation Week 2025 (27 May-3 June) offers a unique opportunity to engage with Murray-Jones powerful depictions of the Stolen Generations and intimate family moments, bringing to life her personal narrative and cultural research in a deeply moving and thought-provoking way.

Coming Home at KHT

Connections to Home is the first solo exhibition of carvings and paintings by revered Barkindji and Ngiyampaa Elder, Uncle Colin (Col) Clark.
This exhibition showcases fifty of Uncle Col’s crafted artworks, including spears, shields, clubs, tapping sticks, digging sticks, boomerangs, didgeridoos, painted emu eggs, bowls, and paintings created over the past 20 years.
Connections to Home demonstrates Uncle Col’s deep knowledge of wood and carving as a cultural practice that connects him to Country and home, but also to his Ancestors and the ongoing legacy expressed through his Marra or hands in Barkindji as he has been nicknamed.
The exhibition explores six overarching themes, developed by Uncle Col and his collaborators: Reading Country; The River is the lifesource; A growing family; Connecting to Ancestors; The wood tells me; and Healing and medicine.

Journey through the past, present and future of the moving image through interactive experiences, digital innovation and captivating stories.
From the first projections and optical illusions to the birth of film and beyond, moving images have the power to spark imagination, share stories and shape history. Discover how inventors, innovators and artists at the turn of the 20th century wielded light, split time and captured motion, heralding a technological revolution that continues today.
Featuring ancient shadow puppets, Victorian-era magic lanterns, original cameras, iconic costumes, movie sets, sketches, clips and contemporary art, The Story of the Moving Image traverses time, countries and cultures in a mesmerising exploration of an art form that changed the world and illuminated our collective humanity.
Five distinct sections frame the major moments in moving image history, including the origins and future of cinema, production design and the creative process, Australian culture and stories, the rise of videogames, and how screens inform, influence and empower us.
These stages come to life through <a href="https://www.acmi.net.au/interactive-experiences-at-acmi/">interactive experiences</a> that let you animate shadows, craft optical toys, experiment with time, assemble film scenes and create soundscapes in a custom Foley studio.
These moments can be collected with the <a href="https://www.acmi.net.au/lens/">Lens</a>, a free tool that collects your favourite objects, artworks and creations in the exhibition. It also animates the Constellation, connecting what you collected to the cosmos of screen content outside ACMI.
